Pro Boxing News - 31 July

The piece entitled "Fatty Ricky should give it up" appeared last November.
Williams claims his personal and professional reputation has been seriously injured, and that he has suffered acute distress and embarrassment. He instructed law firm Simons Muirhead and Burton to act for him, and is seeking damages and an injunction banning repetition of the allegations.
Warren and News Group have refused to give an undertaking that they will not repeat the allegations at the centre of the piece, the writ alleges.

LAS VEGAS - Juan Diaz, a former three-time lightweight world champion, recently graduated from the University of Houston and is planning to attend law school. He and his brother also own a construction company nearby.
Diaz said none of it would have been possible if his parents hadn't migrated from Mexico to the U.S. in order to make a better life for their children. That is why Diaz wrote an editorial for The Houston Chronicle on the Fourth of July denouncing Arizona SB 1070, the controversial immigration law that went into effect in an amended version Thursday. Six of the eight boxers on the card, including Danny Jacobs of Brownsville, Brooklyn, have fought in Arizona, and are against the bill.
Oscar De La Hoya, the President of Golden Boy Promotions, who is promoting Saturday night's card, called the bill "racism." - "When that Arizona law went into effect, they weren't really thinking about 'This is meant for the European immigrants or this is meant for the Asian immigrants,'" De La Hoya told Norm Frauenheim of 15Rounds.com following Wednesday's press conference at Mandalay Bay. "You know? And so, to a certain extent, I call it racism. I really do."

"Since I learned about the fight I’ve been watching Manny Pacquiao’s fights, from when he got knocked out in the beginning of his career, to his loss against (Erik) Morales (in March 2005) and all the other fights were he beat everybody else," Garcia told the leading boxing website fightnews.
"We’ve been studying all those fights and I think we’ll come in with a great plan and a great strategy to beat him," said Garcia. Pacquiao and Margarito will slug it out for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) super-welterweight title on November 13.
Vying to host the much-awaited return of Pacquiao are Las Vegas, Dallas, Monterrey in Mexico and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Arum said he would know by next week which city will secure the rights to stage the bout.

In his two previous US fights on the same network, Theophane 27-4-1 (7) dropped a pair of close decisions to Frenchman Ali Oubaali and, more recently, against Danny Garcia. This evening, however, against a well-rounded and highly regarded contender, the British fighter has again put his name into the mix at 147lbs.

Naciff Castillo(now 7-3, 1KO) of Cozumel took a six round decision over fleshy Tlaxcala native Miguel Garcia (10-12, 5KO). Scores were 59-56, 59-55 and 58-5
