A 10-bout mixed martial arts professional card is slated to lend a financial hand to the Cal State Bakersfield wrestling program. "It's been approved. It's going to happen," CSUB senior associate athletic director Gloria Friedman said of the MMA show slated for the on-campus Icardo Center on Saturday, Aug. 14.

Great Britain’s best mixed martial artists will be on display as the UFC heads across the ocean for an action-packed pay-per-view quality fight card airing on Spike TV (same day tape) on Saturday, October 20 at 9:00pm ET/PT emanating from the O2 Arena from London, England. In the main event, the first British winner of “The Ultimate Fighter”, Michael Bisping (season 3), takes on Japanese superstar Yoshihiro Akiyama in an international middleweight clash. For the co-feature, Nottingham, England’s tough-talking Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy takes on American Carlos Condit in a welterweight contest.

Ortiz vs Hamill at ufc 121 -- The news was then confirmed by MMAFighting, who contacted UFC President Dana White. Ortiz later later updated his Twitter account with the following post:

"The cat got out of the bag. Yes I am fighting at UFC121 at the Honda center Oct 23rd. Waiting for the contract from UFC to sign. Let's Go!"

Bellator Fighting Championships World Featherweight Championship belt will be on the line Sept. 2nd when reigning champ Joe “The Hammer” Soto defends his title against Season 2 Featherweight Tournament Champion Joe Warren at Bellator 27 in San Antonio.

The five-round Main Event Championship fight — which will be televised LIVE nationwide from San Antonio’s Majestic Theatre on FOX Sports Net — features two fighters at the top of their games each looking to make another huge statement that they are among the world’s top 145-pound fighters.

Ryan Couture, son of UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture, has signed a multi-fight contract with Strikeforce and will make his professional MMA debut at Strikeforce Challengers 10 on Aug. 13 in Phoenix, AZ.

Randy Couture first revealed the signing Monday to ESPN's MMA Live and Strikeforce has since confirmed the bout details. Ryan's opponent on Aug. 13 will be another fighter making his pro debut, Lucas Stark. Stark comes from a wrestling background and has competed numerous times locally for the Rage in the Cage promotion.

Strikeforce Confirms Visa Issues for Carina Damm -- Just two weeks before its first women's tournament, Strikeforce might be losing one of its competitors.

There have been reports that Carina Damm, of Brazil, is having a hard time getting her visa secured so she can travel to Phoenix for the Aug. 13 welterweight (135 pounds) tournament, and Strikeforce spokesman Mike Afromowitz confirmed that speculation on Wednesday night in an e-mail to members of the media.

Damm is scheduled to be one of four participants in the tournament, which will be held at Phoenix's Dodge Theatre as part of a Strikeforce Challengers event that will air live on Showtime. The main event of the card is a 182-pound catchweight bout between Joe Riggs and Louis Taylor.

Damm (15-3) hasn't fought outside her native Brazil in more than two years. She has a 10-fight winning streak.

WEC 51 -- The long-awaited rematch between World Extreme Cagefighting rivals Jamie Varner and Donald Cerrone is set for WEC 51 on September 30, a major fight card that will demonstrate the WEC's ability to put on big events even as its top star, Urijah Faber, nurses a leg injury.

Varner announced the Cerrone rematch on his web site, and the addition of that fight  makes WEC 51 one of the best fight cards of the rest of the year in MMA.

Nomura, Ham, Nagano, Hamazaki Advance in Jewels Lightweight GP --  Sakura Nomura took out promotional poster girl Saori Ishioka in a one-sided grappling clinic to advance in the Jewels Lightweight GP at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo on Saturday.

Also moving to the second round of the tournament, Korean kickboxing starlet Seo Hee Ham and newcomer Ayuka Hamazaki turned in dominating performances taking out Mai Ichii and Han Sol Lee respectively, and Mika Nagano avenged her shock loss to Celine Haga with a first-round armbar after a shaky start.
