Budding Muay Thai Star
Muay Thai literally means "Box free" or free boxing. Derives from the Thai words "Muay" – to box and "Thai" – free.
Evan Jay is an eleven year old schoolboy, with no less than three championship success under his belt.
Although young, Evan Jays, already has three championships under his belt - including a British title.
The young protégé who is a student at Eversley Junior School, started out with karate, progressed to kick boxing and went on to Muay Thai.
After winning two regional titles for Muay Thai Boxing, Jay went on to take the national championship for competitors under 33 kilos.
His trainer Brad Goldberg, who teaches the sport in South Benfleet, said: “Evan had to fight older boys, aged 14 and 15, to win the British title.
“He’s a great performer.”
His Dad, Simon, said: “He is very disciplined and trains four or five times a week.
Muay Thai is also referred to as the "Art of Eight Limbs" or the "Science Of Eight Limbs" because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight "points of contact".
