Malta International Camp
The Lion Boxing Club from, London, England will be in Malta between the 20 and 30 July. The group consisting of around twenty five youth boxers and coaches will be coming to Malta to participate in a training camp with several Maltese boxing clubs.
The English group is being led by Lion club coaches, Julian Borg & Steve Walters.
Julian who is of Maltese decent is very well known in Maltese boxing circles, last November (2009) he was very instrumental in the organization of Malta’s largest ever, International club boxing tournament, early in 2010 he was also heavily involved in training camps for Maltese boxers in the UK and more recently he was the appointed coach for the Maltese, St Julian’s Boxing Club, participating at the Haringey Box Cup, which was held at the Alexandra Palace – Wood Green, London.
This is the fifth international boxing training camp to be organized in, Malta since April of 2009. Maltese boxers also participated in three international training camps during this period in Milan, Wales and England.
These training camps were the original brainchild of Julian Borg and former secretary general of the MBF, Alexander Zammit. They were designed to expose Maltese youths to the international world of boxing and once again give credibility to Maltese boxing on the international platform, which had almost sunk into oblivion after the mid seventies.
